The Interdepartmental Centre of Bioclimatology (CIBIC) is a multidisciplinary research centre which is focused on the effects of environment on human health. Medical doctors, biometeorologists, aerobiologists and biostatisticians compose the staff of CIBIC. The main fields of interest are: the relationship between weather and climate and cardiovascular diseases, COPD and asthma; the link between allergenic pollen; environmental factors and allergic diseases; the projections on the effects of climate change on human health. CIBIC has achieved the expertise in dealing and analysing health-related and environmental data, through research projects and original studies and reviews published in international peer-reviewed journals.
Members of staff are national delegates in several COST actions, including the action ES0603 “Assessment of production, release, distribution and health impact of allergenic pollen in Europe” (EUPOL). CIBIC is directly involved in the executive committee of the Italian Association of Aerobiology (AIA) and it contributes to the technical management of the pollen information network (RIMA) of the association.
A member of CIBIC, Lorenzo Cecchi, is the current secretary of the Interest Group on Aerobiology and Pollution of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) and of the Joint Task Force EAACI-European Respiratory Society (ERS) on “Effects of Climate change on respiratory allergic diseases and on asthma prevalence”. CIBIC is currently involved in several regional, national and European research projects.
