Pollen information service
Our main task is to produce and distribute information about airborne pollen and spores in Finland. Continuous monitoring of airborne pollen has been done since 1976, currently at nine locations which are part of the European Aeroallergen Network (
www.polleninfo.org). The most important allergy plant groups in Finland are birch, grasses and mugwort.
Aerobiological research
Our major fields of research are developing immunochemical detection methods for bioaerosols and modelling and forecasting birch pollen seasons. Fungal ecology focuses on the microbial growth in buildings.
Meetings, training
The Unit organises domestic training on analysis of airborne pollen, microbial quality of indoor air and analysis of fungal flora.
